This joint community/professional event will delve into the allure of "clean eating" and other pop culture health trends while breaking down the research on their outcomes and the potential eating disorder risks associated with them. During her talk, Dr. Ambwani will introduce ideas on how to reduce eating disorder risk by shifting the focus from individual to systemic factors. Time for audience discussion and Q&A will follow. Join us after the presentation for refreshments and a meet-and-greet with the speaker, local colleagues and the CED staff.

Second Annual Lighting of the Blue Bridge Reception

The Michigan Eating Disorders Association is again taking the lead in shining the spotlight on Eating Disorders by lighting the Blue Bridge in downtown Grand Rapids in NEDA's signature colors. Building a Strong Recovery: 10 Tools That Can Help Along the Way

Eating disorder recovery is hard work. If you’ve experienced ups and downs or feel stuck at any point along the way, you’re not alone. In this presentation, Dr. Crawford will share insight from his three decades of work with patients and observations from our senior clinical staff about strategies and tools that are associated with long-term positive outcomes in recovery. Attendees will walk away with ten actionable ideas to guide next steps, boost motivation, enhance stability and strengthen skills. Dr. Steven Crawford is Co-Director of The Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt and Assistant Chief of Psychiatry at University of Maryland-St. Joseph Medical Center. Dr. Crawford has worked continuously in the field of eating disorder treatment for nearly three decades. He provides clinical leadership and supervision to staff at all levels of care at The Center for Eating Disorders and is consistently listed among Top Doctors in local and national professional surveys.

How to Support a Child with an Eating Disorder

Summary: 

Offering a free information session for parents of children with eating disorders. Using Family-Based Treatment (FBT) principles, Lauren Muhlheim, Psy.D. will provide an overview of FBT strategies and hope for parents. Lauren Muhlheim is a certified eating disorder specialist, certified FBT therapist, and author of "When Your Teen Has an Eating Disorder: Practice Strategies to Help Your Teen Recover from Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating. She will also be able to answer questions.
